As a member of HHIC, Sentinel have worked closely with the HHIC on development of the important new app from Benchmark, which is now live!
The move aims to digitise the Benchmark scheme, making boiler care easier for everyone involved. Full installation, servicing, and commissioning data history is all available within the app, leading it to be described as a ‘boiler passport’.
The Benchmark checklist has been in place since 1999 as a method to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations for boiler installation, commissioning and servicing. With the launch of an app, Sentinel’s Technical Director, Nisar Afsar, commented, “We are proud to have led in delivering an exciting step for the industry, as we strive to further improve standards whilst also making life easier for installers.”
The required checklist information can be completed at the time of installation, on an installer’s mobile phone or tablet, whether using iOS or Android.
Homeowners will be able to get in on the act too, with a consumer version available later in the year. This version will set up Push notifications from the app to alert householders when it is time to have their boiler serviced and point them in the direction of the engineer who installed their heating system.
Nisar added “There is perhaps a lack of appreciation from homeowners about the importance of regular servicing. The app will help to shift this emphasis and is a great opportunity for installers to win return business as well as develop great relationships with their customers.”
Homeowner attitude to boilers can indeed be passive. A recent study found:
It is hoped that the launch of the apps will help bring down some of the alarming stats seen in the HHIC report. Further comment on these stats can be found by clicking here.
